Overview
This activity is to facilitate communication and dialogue between two very different disciplines of medicine, each very dependent on the other for accuracy of diagnosis, treatment strategies and prognosis. Liver disease and its diagnosis often include a "liver biopsy" to affirm clinical impressions and correlation with laboratory results. At this conference the biopsy is reviewed at a multi-headed microscopic lead by the pathologist who addresses the salient microscopic features, and in this process the clinician becomes familar with morphology of liver disease under the microscope and its activity as it "plays out" in the liver. The biopsy also helps determine stage of the disease, most notable the presence or absence of significant fibrosis or cirrhosis. For the pathologist, they learn the critical parameters of the biopsy to assess for differentia diagnosis based on clinical and laboratory and in this process, provide a more accurate and complete report. This exchange visa-vie this conference advances patient care and comradery between medical specialists, always a desirable outcome.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Recognize and describe other specialties that participate in diagnosing and treating liver patients.
  2. Modify to improve competence of participants.
  3. Demonstrate and evaluate performance in practice.
  4. Monitor and improved patient outcomes.
